you’re about to lose your head…

while getting some tail

Clasps forward legs in prayer
Thankful to exist

a praying mantis
on a bloom where silence lies
a moment of peace

Beautiful Mantis,

     Sitting on your leaf so proud,

          Praying for insects!

cold, coiled artistry,
        ornately hued predator,
                 boa constrictor!

ants on the cracks of
 the sidewalks carrying that
of dead carcass soul

of fallen praying 
mantis through spider web trap
ant gathers eating

the fallen remains
of the dead emerald pest
eaten by the ants

Going down the stairs,
Hand grasps the banister rail;
Hiding mantis bites!

the mantis stands still
and waits for the right moment
no useless motion

garden day lilies
perch for yellow butterflies
hungry mantis meal

praying mantis hangs 
waiting for its next prey 
to come crawling along
