LATE OCTOBER HAIKU

LATE AUTUMN HAIKU

they’re almost gone now
how brown, bare the branches look
some toys in the leaves

when rain turns to snow
how sad those two last roses
brave faces with tears

apples      bruised apples
scattered on the frosted green
and this twiggy frown

music in the wind
late october’s final song
dancing red and gold

talk of winter now
old dog by a crackling fire
shutters rattle      pings!

photo of dear dad
he loved that fulsome willow
fallen leaves      marker

Waterfall

I am the water
nursed toward the loving light
born to rise and fall

not the large wave crest
willing its way to the top
grasping at the sky

nor the sad whisper
landing deep within the fog
grieving please not now

born to rise and fall
calmly reflect in the sun
I am the water

"The moment the wave understands that she is water, she loses all fear and enjoys much more being a wave, without a beginning and end".

((** Natures Nurse **))

Hot temperatures
someone call the spring doctor
cold fertilizer

((** Early Bird **))

Fresh morning light
sweet SAP falling on my plate
Lego my Eggo

((** Desert Rose **))

In the dead of night
One star sings me a sad song
cactus feels my pain

((** Looks that kill **))

What else can I say?
Intrigue me with silence
look into my eyes

((** Home Sweet Home **))

End of road
my final destination
Next stop Olympus!

FACES OF STORM

TROPICAL STORM

midday darkness heavy
    rain pounds, winds howl---
           trees topple as huts crumble

EYE OF THE STORM

blacked-out night
     eerie silence for miles---
          dog whimpers and hide

STORM’S AFTERMATH

sun shines bright on
    full clotheslines for miles---
        sad smiles from grief-stricken faces

*To all those who prayed for my country, the Philippines, thank youThe typhoon changed course and only a small portion up north was affected It is unfortunate however, that 2 people died due to electrocution, an effect no doubt of the storm.

My Window's February View

                                    Winter lies frigid
                     Cardinals flit from branch to branch
                                Blindly seeking Spring

                                 Too sad to view more
                            Shades should be kept drawn
                                   Spring sun will lift them

the ashes of the old one

"broken" -.now stronger" well death is sadafter everything my friend gone through a

kigo/ weasel (brown in summer but white in winter!) My area is the Rocky Mountain West For Debbie Guzzi's "Animal Haiku Poetry Contest" Note: Go to Youtube and see videos of weasel attacks if you want to see it in actionSad but it's "animal nature!" The rat I saw in a video was nearly twice the size of that weasel that killed him!! White weasels are very cute, but wow, are they ever vicious!

Southwest Landscapes

Five in the morning
Orange and red glow in the east
A new day is born

A single rain drop
Looks to be the final straw
Now the flood begins

Albuquerque view
Volcanoes on the mesa
Since the age of time

Once green and growing
Now brown and brittle and free
A Tumbleweed's life

With long floppy ears
And kangaroo backleg kicks
It roams the mesa

Bone dry arroyo
But when the rains fall heavy
A river runs wild

Blackened pine tree trunks
Struggling to regain life
Only time will tell

Blistering sunlight
Sheltered cove of solid rock
A sliver of shade

Multicolored hues
Cliffs of reds, browns, blacks, and whites
Southwestern landscape

Red rock formations
As far as the eye can see
And way back in time

Rocks piled upon rocks
Balanced precariously
Thousands of years now

Upright arms of green
Prickly needle point barbs
anchored in the sand

A typical day
Arid heat of one-o-eight
No humidity

All along the ridge
Patiently waiting for years
Arms lifted towards God

Two thousand years back
These cliffs were inhabited
Why did they all leave

Striated hillsides
In the land of enchantment
Navajo glory

Six-sided hogans
Grandfather's ancient design
Still in use today

Cemetery stones
No tree to provide them shade
What a sad, sad sight

Knarly old pine tree roots
Wrapped around an ancient stone
Holding on for life

Fluffy white mountains
Filling up an azure sky
Will it rain today?

Dancing dust devils
Whirling twirling to the sound
Of the wind's music

Shimmering mirage
The desert laughs at the lost
Nature's cruelty
A dry washboard road
Miles out through the desert
A crystal blue lake

Manmade lake at damn
Stopping mother nature's flow
Do we have the right?

Upturned leaves on tree
Frantically waving in wind
Soon the rains will come

He rattled his tail
Demanding respect from all
We complied as one

Sun rises, sun sets
Twenty four hours are over
Accomplish anything?

Not a sound was heard
Footprints only in our wake
The desert winds sleep

Not a sound is heard
Footprints only in our wake
The desert winds sleep

The crunch of gravel
Undeveloped housing roads
Early morning walks

The smell of wood smoke
Memories of the Southwest
Couldn't help but smile

Warming in the sun
Like a lizard on a rock
What a view I had

Morning wakeup call
Bacon wafting through the house
Even I got up

Pollution puddle
Reflecting rainbow colors
Do we call that art?

New Mexico winds
Neither unseen nor unheard
Constantly blowing

HAIKU #12,084-12,087.............................................................EYES

Have you ever seen
Iris of an eye so black
Its pupil is knight

I know a small boy
Bestowed with one cat pupil
And one most human.

Brown skin brown iris
Irises changing colors
Like chameleons.

Mean eyes sexy eyes
I have seen sad eyes singing
Tugging at my heart.

SILENCE

Silence is golden
unless this sad quietude
is coming from you.

[Wrote this for a GR friend, who sometimes disappears for long stretches, and I liked it enough to post here, cause it often applies to many people I know, who go quiet (or even disappear altogether) from the online ranksI thought other poets and readers might empathize.]

JOLLY LOLLY

Sad sad goodbyes
Tears in the rain;
TV drama

~~~~~~~~~
Old man writes
Amusing musings;
Laughs madly aloud
~~~~~~~~~

Memory recites
Changes lyrics;
Good old daze

~~~~~~~~~
Morning mist
Cold chilly wind;
Sun on vacation
~~~~~~~~~

Limping man
Walks his dog;
Sight for sore eyes

~~~~~~~~~
Old heritage tree
Ancient times linger;
Living relic
~~~~~~~~

News highlight
Men killing men;
Wars never end

~~~~~~~~~
A cruel race we are
Style sweet smiles;
Turn around and kill
~~~~~~~~~

Jolly Lolly fun
Old ice cream treat;
Extinct as the dinosaur

~~~~~~~~~
My darling sleeps
Speaks in a dream;
Murmurs lovely things
~~~~~~~~~

Just for a while
Shopping briefly;
Fatigue comes quick

~~~~~~~~~
Crowded lift
Strange motley faces;
Checking e-devices
~~~~~~~~~

Ancient evenings
TV for company;
Life goes on

Haiku Collection: three

1.
The sun has fallen
Behind pacific rim;now
Pastels stream the sky.
2.
The winter solstice-
And harvests long since past the
Noon-time of my life.
3.
Frost on the pumpkin-
His face waxing sad for the
Warmer days gone by.
4.
Beyond this fence line
The valley goes on for miles
Then arcs to the hill.
5.
You are more than love;
You are more than the earth's beauty-
You Are Forever!
6.
A trellis full of
Morning glories sparkling in
The newborn sunrise.
7.
I should call the stars
To halo all the beauty
Of your lovely face.
8.
Will a sonnet do?
If so,then you're a sonnet
Written in the wind
            |
Fly to every shore
And linger there a while,that
Other's might read you.
9.
Shrouded in the mists
Of a time I used to know,
Lay the love of you.
10.
This sun bright morning,
The hills are dotted with cows
Of many colors.
11.
Sleepy eyes, roll on;
Take your rest beneath the pines
Locked away in dreams.
12.
I contemplate you~
Your long hair blowing wildly
At the meadow's edge.
13.
Trees, trees and more trees-
Everywhere I look, I see
Trees, trees and more trees.
14.
In favor of the
Flavor of the red apple(?);
Fruitless taste of time.
15.
Minutes 'til the time
When we will journey onward
To the garden gate.
16.
Let's ride the windy
Night until the dark is gone,
And we find the dawn.
17.
Soft,the drippling light,
Melting like a candle's wax
All along our path.

Persian Haiku

                   Persian Haiku      (Segani)

My wing altered with age.
The wing that is broken
My body is the cage.

I’m covered with dirt.
From this dirt I am alert.
Alert makes me hurt.

I’m talking to you!
My eyes are kissing you.
The fishes are watching.

How do you know that?
The tree is not my lover!
Spring will discover.

How childish is love?
When you stole my heart again,
How can I complain?

How sad is my tree?
In the middle of a prison;
Even though is free.

INVISIBLE LIFE

INVISIBLE LIFE.......................HAIKU #12,053-12,058

Some wear coats gray green
Others come on the scene clean
A process unseen

My ears my eyes poised
I saw my plum tree alive
Pregnant with ripe plums

I watched her thrived
But foreign host soon arrived
Invading her limbs

She stood out like beam
Haters scoffed at the sad scene
While elements smiled

One branch of my tree
Handed a message to me
"Life can be renewed"

A new branch emerged
Vibrant than the rest gray green
She became the queen.

CITYSCAPES 2

Deserted financial centre
Ghost town after dark;
Weekend constellations

~~~~~~~~~
Blank myth created
To express a fond wish;
Merlion antiquity
~~~~~~~~~

Old neighbour nods
Smiles in recognition;
Civilised exchange

~~~~~~~~~
Sing-song Good Morning
Little boy entertains;
Proud parent smiles approval
~~~~~~~~~

New journal pages
Awaiting sanguine soliloquy;
Expansive permutations

~~~~~~~~~
Words on a page
Taut revelations;
Insider trading conspires
~~~~~~~~~

Psalm of morning hues
Sunburst meditation;
Light speed aura

~~~~~~~~~
Evening sitcom moments
Scripted melodrama;
Favourite dinner fare
~~~~~~~~~

Poignant sad story
Tear-jerker streaking away;
Pending reconciliation

~~~~~~~~~
By this desk
Lyrics in verse align;
Exfoliated outbursts
~~~~~~~~~

Uncomfortable stress
Chasing that and this;
Organised unease

~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday retires
Today an offering;
Tomorrow perhaps
~~~~~~~~~

Style a fond smile
Sanguine as usual;
Clash of surprise

A Desired Togetherness

Mom's deep sanctity
contrasted with daddy's shameless
immorality.

Four beautiful girls,
one handsome boy could have made
a great family.

Mom was a lovely
and religious woman who
taught us to love God

Dad was unkind to her,
and for our sake she remained
in a sad marriage

The lust he had for
his mistress took him away
from his five children.

What we all needed was
a desired togetherness,
that strong bond of trust.

Growing up was hard
with the absence of his love,
we felt so deprived.

More than my sisters,
his denial of affection
effected my outlook.

I lacked confidence,
the support other boys had,
I felt so unwanted.

I missed his warm hugs,
his laughter in my birthdays...
the pride in his son

For the Haiku from the Heart Contest
Submitted by Ann Roske
Form : contemporary haiku
3-6-3 format

We've had a really wet and weird winter and have 4 white oaks that have fallen over on the back of our property It is sad to see them go down, but Mother Earth will reclaim and re-purpose them This is my small tribute to that wonderful and mysterious process - circle of life.

in raging red and crimson
the

birds fly to their nest
a tiresome day ends at dusk

nude night dresses in calmness

Between Venetian Blinds

Tuscany beckons
Wandering minds traveling
On the sun's last rays

The pale flesh glowing
Mother stirs from her closed bed
She slides to a stop

Where is she going?
When will the awaited day
Arrive for our sakes?

Letting go is real
Cry, celebrate, or wishing
Through it all we wait

Touched by the angels
Her heavy eyelids closing
Old thoughts will return

A warm offering
Quiescent reality
Numbing all to sleep

Brother's soft hair
Sobbing through the stagnant air
Breathing in deeply

Distant music plays
Chords of joy and pain wander
Forever reaching

Sister's loss held in
Bursting with the hope for death
Squeezing in the love

Past, present, future
Father's sad joy leaking out
Through Venetian blinds

There are no angels
Hovering where we can see
Belief quivering

God sends us no signs
Mortality challenges
At sunset right here

ON THE ROAD

A nice veneer
Looking solid and good;
Termites devour within

Life hazards
Venture bleeding;
More vitamin M needed

Business failure
Shocking casualties;
Bankrupted parties

Spice can smell nice
But nice can tell lies;
Sometimes a vice

Impressive bungalow
Sporty car;
Heavy in debt woes

Sad but true
Vanity masquerades;
Not the real thing

Newspaper headlines
Scandal and heartbreak;
I feel sad for you

Regrets fester
Like gangrene;
Amputate the trash

Eye witness here
I watch you tumble;
Helpless to help

Impressive life
Career highlights unrivaled;
Why this bankruptcy?

Sad story
Paper described;
Can prayer alleviate?

In-between
Life and death;
Struggle for meaning

Worldly mindset
Get rich quick;
Scheming for more

Between ambition
And acquisition;
Avarice styles

To succeed well
Take failures well;
Survive persecution

Liquor and wine
Wine and dine;
Decadence flaunts

Simple vanity
Defines ambition;
Practical notions heap

And in the end
Just round the bend;
Broken trends sweep clean

Fond happy dreams;
Such a miracle

Looking back
Yesterday brought tears;
A sad awakening

~~~~~~~~~
Your voice echoes
In the stray wind;
In your place, tembusu tree
~~~~~~~~~

Just last year
The inevitable;
Today we reminisce

~~~~~~~~
Swiftly time run away
Endings abruptly sad;
Resolve honours bold vision
By Duxton walkway
Images of your life;
Lessons of history
~~~~~~~~~

Stern to the last
Pictures of flashback;
Is it one year on?

~~~~~~~~~
Familiar surroundings
Old precinct with new glow;
Once there was you
Once a mortal walk
Upon these island shores;
One to call our own
Stern and austere
Your posture complex;
No time for foolish things
Notoriety
Produced much anxiety
A sad way to be.
On Best Behavior
On Best Behavior
Stock market pervert
Ended up loosing our shirt
In a world of hurt.
Am incompetent
Tell me what you may have meant
How much money spent
May be in big hurt
All of us have lost our shirt
Missed out on growth spirit.
Declare an edict
What will I have to predict
Which won't make you sick.
Now where should we go
Those who will be in the know
Who had told us so.
What will make things worse
None of it did we rehearse
Now curse after curse.
What will great God do
And were so sad when we knew
Have been in a stew.
Why should we waiver
We are all a Christ craver
Who is our savior.
BEUTY BECAUSE OF HER
I see beauty when I see her..I feel happiness when she's around.when I hold
her in my arms it feels as we're floating above the clouds.before I wished upon
the stars a thousands wishes.prayed to the gods a million prayersto light my
life and lead me out of the dark.they sent me the sun to shine a path to her.
now I know the true meaning of beauty
A deep stare comes over when I look at her.It feels as the universe is aligned
and all pain is gone when i'm with herthere's no hurting, not even a sad moment
in sighteveryday seems like we're growing like two wild vines intertwining
freely.laying by her side is where I go when I drift off in to space.there's no
one like her.a soul so beautiful that reflects through her smile.eyes that I get
lost in but still in that place where nothing goes wrong.now I know how it feels to
smile from within.because of her
Did You Forget Me, Dear (JW)
Did you forget me
Inquire you not today
Dry clouds on the line
Yearn I now for you
One drop of dew on my tongue
Urging my sad heart
Flow no sound of sky
Or earth sweet as your breath here
Rinsing my sadness
Give me sweet reason
Eternal joy to embrace
Thrilled that you are well
Make this silence leave
Ebb my heart in its still day
Did you forget me
Edged at night waiting
Alone, the moon of your presence,
Restless till clouds go.
Sludge
Thick sludge upon my
wings; sad eyes in need of help
Hopeless eyes searching
For Raul's contest
Isn't it sad to think
that everyone on earth
ends on a bad day.
