My Family

flowers are women
in my family’s garden -
Mom and her daughters

rhythm surrounds me
as I sway in contentment -
September’s Aster

Geranium Jen
bends graciously in the breeze -
our southern comfort

charming Melanie
with her sunflower brightness
warms us with her smiles

Our sister Doris
the stalwart Gladiolus
will never fail us

With perseverance
Thea boldly holds her own -
sweet Delphinium

Mom at our center
a spiritual iris
simply inspires us

A forget-me-not
for my sisters and mother -
and roses of love

Under the Sakura Tree

sipping saki under the sakura tree a haiku blossoms Note: Drinking and eating under a blooming cherry tree (Sakura) is a century old custom in JapanAs a result, "flowers" in haiku came to be known as "cherry blossoms."

Inside a Japanese Garden: with added note

cherry blossoms fall
confetti cast to the wind
tumbling to the ground

orange koi swimming
summer rain upon the pond
lotus of soft blush

bamboo whispering
their voices sing at twilight
serenade the moon

fire fades from the sun
low upon the horizon
bowing to the sea
rays of light shimmering gold
sunset crosses the threshold

***I posted this series of Japanese writings at the request of Dale CozartHe saw the beauty of nature through these simple words on another poetry siteI thank you, Dale, and the many of you who now see it, tooIt was entered in a contest, but the judge thought it lacked 'punch,' and called it "insipid."

Persian Haiku 2

           Persian Haiku 2

What a gorgeous view?
You and the flower garden,
I'm the butterfly.

I’m drunk with love,
Some are red and some are white.
I love all colors.

The sky is so blue.
You’re my rainbow through and through.
Oh dear, I love you.

Your eyes, the ocean;
The ocean, colors your eyes.
Your hair is the wave.

Moon on the ocean,
Your face is the reflection.
Always be alone.

I live with my heart,
All flowers are beautiful,
I love daffodils.

What a discussion,
I had with all my flowers.
Their breath smells nice.

An Apiary Haiku

the old apiary my mind hums with recollections ------------------------------------- Review by Kazuko Nishimura ~ Haiku Masters ~ April 2018 By pairing the photo of an old, now abandoned apiary with this haiku, the audience can immediately imagine the sounds of bees buzzing around, working hard to create honeyFor the narrator, those buzzing sounds may confuse or distress his or her mind by bringing back old memories, but involuntarily remembering past events is something everyone can relate to, making it easy for the audience to connect with this workThe sound of bees buzzing and the soft light in the photo show hints of spring http://nhk.jp/haikumasters

~~The Enemy~~
deep like the abyss
hating has drowned deep inside
pumping to get out

moment in the past
life will never be the same
future history

~~Feet Lust~~
please tickle my toes
caressing feel, in between
sweep me off the ground

~~Love Flows~~
love comes in circles
put them words right in my mouth
sweet like the river

~~Earth Core~~
deeper than a thought
waiting silent under ground
volcano loop hole

~~Silent Grave Yard~~
moon beam upon name
resting forever in peace
tears soon forgotten

darkness turning white
no where to run from now on
I belong to you

nature and it's will
boundaries between all battles
like a dead flower

~~Sweat or Honey~~
hot steamy liquid
yellow like a sun flower
flowing to release

~~Peaks Out~~
brown mountain rock soul
smells nothing like natures dew
wipe off till it's gone

palm trees silhouette
against ocean's pastel hues
sunset's soft glow

misty horizon
oceans seperate his palm
from my tear

my floating sandal-
tumbling waves break
upon the shore

floating bubbles
before i tossed my pebble
dad breaks wind at sea

waves lilt upon the sand
coloured corals crunch
between our toes

low tide
dawn's golden shimmer reveals
a coral reef

a lone ship fades
in the mist

Two haiku after a painting by Russell Gordon

flowering dogwood
perched and pert, a tanager
harkens to the wind

flowering dogwood
perched and pert, just listening
scarlet tanager

this plaster statue
she’s naked, white and demure
looking at a rose

her round, yellow hat
casts a shadow as she picks
transformation bloom

all is wet and wild
garden cowed by wind and rain
tortoise pokes its head

summer’s backward glance
reluctant to say adieu
one lonely white rose
