claws of insanity
locked deep in my dark dungeon
mesmerised by eyes

soft scale like petals
my prisoner forever
heart of a dragon

wrapped around my tail
lost in my ring of fire
naughty demon breath

clever like a beast
taunting my prey like dessert
a spell you can't break

Masks (of Hallowen)

Darkness uttermost
Howl gobblins, gooks, grinch and ghost
Dripping touch of night

Blood like curdled light
Candle tears, white serpents hiss
Shadowing the mist

Hell has broken free
Behind the masked jubilee
Of death's silent screams

Rats, pumpkins, dead dreams
In dried fairytales of leaves
Mark, our prank deceives

The shuddering knife
Not again, jack ripped his heart
With pale piper's fife.

Not heaven nor art
The cold merriment, a wheeze
Of dark wintry breeze.

HAIKU #1-14 (Taken from my files totaling 12,016 haiku, started in 2/9/06)

Ants red as wine A black spider seem to own
dine on yellow nectar squatter's rights right on
from a juicy mango our front porch.

Day of rain and A quiet gentle breeze brought
zero visibility, then thoughts of Belize and
pastel evening sky New York's Hudson.

Morning draped in silk Drenched from his walk
of white as we await snow a lone man sat basking on
and sleet and cold rain bench in sudden sunshine.

In dreariness of winter Driving home by night
my philodendron buds stands I fled the signal of a white
erect and frozen hand hitchhiking.

Earth held in traction In temp of one hundred
by glistening silver moon a black bird basked
full like a balloon in my shadow.

Blond rabbit pregnant In dark of night
with spunk often visit and With full moon bright
side with the husband military copters all in a row.

A spider sleeps all day In early morn my pen
then wake up and work poised like stillness of
at post twilight time trees awaiting breeze.

Heaven's furry sheep
Grazing the light atmosphere
Bares blue the sky's bloom

Clouds were made to weep
Not paint portraits on blue air
Trees without perfume

The virtual sea
These Jason's sail, hides nothing
Except death's surprise

The eyes graze the deep
Visions of the mind, what fear
Like frosty waves leap

From the hearts dark sea
The wind of thoughts in rags bring
Logic's cold demise

Love should not regret
The fancy of the heart, wing
It, denying death

For clouds' sheep are dreams
Dream's love are clouds, the blue air
With new magic teems

The Fox, The Wolf, The Coyote

The Fox

with cat-like slit eyes
lurking near the hen house.
meow-less creature

Chihuahua-like ears
catch a sound in the bushes.
hens can rest easy

a small rat scurries
with that vixen in pursuit
it’s fast-food tonight

song of the desert -
long howls declare “I am here”
mice and rabbits hide

barking dogs in threes
unlucky mice collected.
live practice for cubs

yippy yippy yip
heard among those happy cubs
celebration time

The Pack

the pack starts its hunt
mountains rise up before them
thirty miles to go

in dark night - dog fight
one alone - tail stands erect
yellow eyes back off

wolf faces grinning
twenty pounds of meat for each
like one hundred burgers

Adirondacks Ode

Climb high these mountains
And meet cliffs of history
Snug against the moon

Cold lover's warm kiss
Caress each syllable of song
Love makes joy exist
Adirondacks mist
The milk of mothering trees
Melted on morning's joy

Tongue lark the dark lakes
Water births of memory
Ego ice thin here

The nation's blood lens
The red moon night, so pride stakes
Claim to fluid truth
The wind prowls the skin
Stirring leaves of memories
A breast dried of peace

Algonquian trail
Footsteps eat the span of trees
Man is small in grief

The muskets torment
Fusion of mission and right
The north shrikes lament

And beg migrants gone
But wax wing they shun the sun
Bunting snow for life.

Old Mohawk glory
Gone when forest bare shivers
In castles of ice

Steel teeth scrape the rocks
And eat iron from the ore
Of greed, killing trees

Logging the green tongue
Of the sun's wealth of heat
For this new kingdom

Of civilized men
Performing barbaric feats
Distant from the den.

Dusk the Gilded Age
Of rage.like natives, all past
Diseased to the eye

A new dawn breaks song
And howls of joy claim again
The blessings of rain

Sceptered in the throat
Cities' diamonds of dew
Love of warblers note.

Love is eagle's joy
Climbing high against the breast
Peaking in delight.

With spring’s sudden warmth
serial avalanches thunder
one triggers the next

Winter’s snow melting
laughing, leaping, running to
valley far below

Green slopes banded red
dying lodgepole pine, memories
of last year’s Chinook

Golden larch quivers
as the first storm of winter
passes close tonight

As a boy, I came
to know this quiet valley
father's special place

Leaving highway to
where mountains reach to heaven
we drove the stone road

Fishing beaver ponds
dad came on bees, lost his specs
on return just bees

One night as we camp
a timberwolf comes to call
returns to dark night

On the upper lake
clouds mask the solar eclipse
but fish go crazy

One spring’s discovery
drawdown pools, teeming with trout
who won’t touch anything

A five pound rainbow
beached chasing Peter’s lure
red stripe - jealousy

Late autumn, Lake B
big browns cruise downwind beaches
only we know where

A ski resort appears
wonderland needs paved roads
we protest in vain

Twenty years later
returning with my children
to an unknown place

If you slow to look
irate traffic leans on horns
rushing to their lodge

My kids and I fish
a borrow pit now a“lake”
tourists' put and take

To a grizzly bear
roads are barriers wider
than flooding rivers
